KYVL has partnered with OCLC since November 1999 to make the OCLC WorldCat database on FirstSearch available to member libraries at a substantial savings over individual library pricing. Kentucky Virtual Library continues to provide KYVL member libraries access to FirstSearch and WorldCat Discovery. In 2016, OCLC announced that they will continue to enhance WorldCat Discovery as well as deliver the full-featured WorldCat searching valued in FirstSearch in a new version of FirstSearch separate from WorldCat Discovery. KYVL member libraries will continue to be able to access the current FirstSearch service as the new version of FirstSearch is developed.
More information regarding WorldCat Discovery and FirstSearch, including a detailed FAQ, is available on the OCLC website at: www.oclc.org/firstsearch.en.html
Worldshare Management Services (WMS) is an integrated suite of cloud-based library management applications. With WorldCat data as its foundation, libraries using WMS experience improved workflows and a drastic reduction in the time it takes to perform routine tasks, including e-resource management and cataloging. They have also been able to reallocate full-time staff to undertake new initiatives, such as cataloging special collections, creating LibGuides for users and redesigning library websites.

OCLC's Central Index is a repository of metadata of electronic resources such as articles, e-books, streaming videos and more. The index is continually growing, and is available to libraries using WorldCat Discovery, which is currently available to KYVL member libraries.
The index is vendor neutral and includes select items and collections from the major providers such as Gale, EBSCO, ProQuest, and more.
The WorldCat Knowledge Base stores the data to indicate what a library has rights to and it contains the linking logic the integrated OpenURL resolver uses to construct the links used to access those resources. The knowledge base is available to libraries with OCLC cataloging subscriptions.
