Free stops

Each participating institution or library system is eligible for one weekly stop paid for by KYVL. Additional stops at main or branch locations may be arranged through KYVL at an additional cost (Cost for additional stops, below).

Free stops, FY 2017-18

For FY 2017-18, additional weekly stops will be available at no cost to the highest-volume users through one-time funding available through June 30, 2018. Stops are initially being allocated based on average weekly use during FY 2015-16, the most recent year for which data is available. One free weekly stop is being scheduled for each library or system for each 25 items of average weekly usage:

  • 25+ weekly items: one additional stop
  • 50+ weekly items: two additional stops
  • 75+ weekly items: three additional stops
  • 100+ weekly items: four additional stops

Added stops are subject to change within the current fiscal year based on changing usage patterns.

For added public library stops, FY 2017-18 funding is being provided by the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives through the Institute of Museum and Library Services Grants to States program. For added academic library stops, FY 2017-18 funding is being provided by KYVL through budgeted funds due to a shortened service year.

Cost for additional stops

Under the terms of the master agreement with the courier, KYVL's approximate annual cost for one weekly courier stop is $1,750. For eight months of service during F17-18, the approximate annual cost is $1,200 per weekly stop. Libraries may purchase additional weekly stops at this rate.

For FY 2017-18 only, limited funds are available from the Kentucky Department for Libraries through the Institute of Museum and Library Services Grants to States program to subsidize additional public library stops and from KYVL to subsidize additional academic library stops. Annual cost for one weekly stop for FY 2017-18 only will be $500, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To request an additional stop for your library or library system, please contact KYVL.
