The KYVL Leadership Team authorized the Affordable Learning Exploratory Task Force as an ad hoc KYVL task force with an initial term through June 2021. In July 2021, the task force became the Affordable Learning Steering Committee.
The charge of the Affordable Learning Steering Committee is to facilitate efforts to expand availability and use of low- and / or no-cost high-quality educational resources for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, with an initial focus on undergraduate higher education.
The steering committee coordinates the work of project teams focusing on specific aspects of the overall project and makes recommendations to the Council on Postsecondary Education by way of the KYVL Leadership Team. A member of the steering committee serves as a liaison to each project team.

The steering committee for F2-23 has been expanded to include a representative from each of Kentucky's public universities and three each from KCTCS and AIKCU, and includes a KYVL leadership team liaison. The KYVL executive director represents the Council on Postsecondary Education.
The steering committee is formed around a core of KYVL member institutions currently engaged in and actively exploring OER or other affordable learning efforts, and includes representation from SAALCK, KCTCS and AIKCU. Other steering committee members include a KYVL Leadership Team liaison and the KYVL executive director with the potential for participation by additional CPE staff.
Participating institutions may be represented by one or two actively engaged individuals, such as librarians, instructional designers, faculty champions, etc. Additional institutional representatives may participate in the subgroups.
The task force is formed around a core of KYVL member institutions currently engaged in and actively exploring OER or other affordable learning efforts and will include the KYVL executive director and a KYVL Leadership Team liaison. Participating institution will be represented by one or more librarians along with other appropriate staff, such as instructional designers, faculty champions, etc.
The group will submit a recommendation for chair to the Leadership Team for approval.
