KYVL is pleased to announce that much-anticipated access to the Opposing Viewpoints in Context database is now available. Search now at kyvl.org/ovic.

From the vendor:

Gale's Opposing Viewpoints In Context is the premier online resource covering today's hottest social issues, from capital punishment to immigration to marijuana. This cross-curricular research database supports science, social studies, current events, and language arts classes. Informed, differing views help learners develop critical-thinking skills and draw their own conclusions.

Opposing Viewpoints In Context is a rich resource for debaters and includes pro/con viewpoints, reference articles, interactive maps, infographics, and more. A category on the National Debate Topic provides quick and easy access to content on frequently studied and discussed issues. Periodical content covers current events, news and commentary, economics, environmental issues, political science, and more.

A few key points, links and resources:

  • Opposing Viewpoints in Context (OVIC) is being licensed for one year. Under the current contract, KYVL members will have access through February 19, 2020.
  • Current OVIC subscribers will be contacted by your Gale sales account manager in the days ahead with prorated credit information based on the KYVL subscription start date. Proration does not apply to libraries under federal contract.
  • A training webinar for KYVL is being scheduled. Watch for an announcement.
  • OVIC will be integrated with KYVL's EBSCO Discovery Service. Instructions and resources for discovery integrations can be found at support.gale.com/doc/discovery

For questions or additional information, contact KYVL at kyvl@ky.gov or 844.400.KYVL.

Thank you for your patience during the procurement process. We are excited to be able to offer this added resource in support of KYVL's mission to provide all Kentuckians a common foundation of high-quality resources, and support in their use, to enhance lifelong learning, working and living.
